The last incident took place on March 12, where a boat carrying 25 people capsized near Tobruk . Authorities managed to rescue six migrants Special Data and recovered seven bodies, although 12 people are still missing. The organization once again calls for "concrete actions" to reduce the loss of life on the Mediterranean migratory route , through proactive searches, rescues and safe disembarkation mechanisms, in accordance with International Law. With this, they highlight how these incidents are the result of inequitable access to safe and legal mobility.
" More options are needed for safe, orderly and regular migration , so that people are not forced to risk their lives in their search for better opportunities ," they noted.
The head of the IOM mission in Libya, Federico Soda, has been "devastated" by the loss of life on this route and the lack of action to combat "this ongoing tragedy . " "Each missing migrant represents a grieving family seeking answers about their loved ones. Families deserve to know the fate of their children, siblings, parents, partners or friends ," he highlighted.
