I recently got my hands on Chanel No. 5 perfume, and I finally understand why people say it is not for everyone.
On the very first spray, I was honestly surprised. Instead of the powdery, “old school” scent I kept hearing about, it came across more like a strong jasmine note, almost like jasmine oil. For a moment I thought, is this really the famous Chanel No. 5 everyone talks about?
But once it started to dry down, things changed. That is when the classic character of this Chanel perfume really showed up. The powdery notes slowly came in, mixed with a soft hint of sandalwood, and suddenly it made sense. It started to smell very vintage, elegant, and even a bit nostalgic.
I can see why this fragrance is considered iconic, but also why it can be difficult for some people to love. It is not a simple, easy fragrance. It evolves over time, and your impression can completely change from the first spray to the dry down.
Personally, I ended up liking it, but I would not say it is an easy everyday wear for me. It definitely feels more like something you appreciate rather than just casually throw on.
Trying Chanel No. 5 perfume also made me curious about exploring more from the Chanel perfume line, maybe something a bit more modern next.
