I was scrolling through some medieval history content last night and ended up reading about old punishment tools used in Europe. It honestly surprised me how many of these devices weren’t just about pain but also public humiliation. A few years ago, I visited a small historical museum during a trip and saw replicas of some of these tools, and it stuck with me ever since. I’m curious though — were these devices actually used as often as movies suggest, or is a lot of it exaggerated for drama? I’d love to understand how common they really were and what purpose they served in everyday medieval life, not just extreme cases.
